To eat it or drink it?: That is the question (not really THE question – it’s just a question).

January 14, 2017

I had a conversation with a colleague the other day who had bought a juicer.

I had a juicer in the past, and I gave it away. Never really used it.

I suggested to her that I am no longer 1 (year old), and I prefer my food to be solid.

She made a good point in response. She said “I find it difficult to eat the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables every day.”.

Being vegan, I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, so her statement hadn’t ever really dawned on me.

We are not all vegan however (stating the obvious), and I imagine there are a lot of people in the world, just like my colleague, who find it hard to force down so many plant-based foods every day.

Our conversation gave me the idea to blog the pros and cons of drinking food.

Here’s what I came up with:

  • You can cram a lot more nutrients into one meal, without feeling like you are going to blow up.

  • You can prepare a traveler to drink when you are mobile.

  • It’s a quick meal when you are in a rush.

  • It's easy to consume when you are not feeling great.

  • Often the skin, which contains a lot of nutrients, is disposed of. Otherwise your drink can be a bit chunky.

  • What doesn’t become juice becomes compost. That’s expensive compost.

  • It’s a tad messy. Lot of cleanup. Not a fan.

  • You might forget how to chew. I don’t really believe that. I just couldn’t think of another con.

So, will you drink it or eat it? Comment below.
